    Box 1 HM 83502: Page family album. This scrapbook documents the Page family history from Connecticut to Pasadena, California in 1887. The contents of the scrapbook include: clippings regarding Connecticut and Pasadena social and religious activities, invitations to functions, correspondence, photographs, postcards, and pamphlets pasted in. There is a telegram from Booker T. Washington where he kindly declines Cornelia B. Page's invitation to visit Pasadena, California. The earliest item in this scrapbook was a letter written by Samuel Malty Page to his "Grandmother" in 1843. The latest clipping reports the death of Emily B. Page in 1916. Note: This scrapbook is fragile.

    Jamaica journal & reporter: manuscript newspapers

    Manuscripts

    Although these manuscripts are unsigned, their style, art work, tone, humor and handwriting, suggest that they may be written by Abraham Leech. The two issues of the "Jamaica Journal & Reporter" are dated November 25, 1846 and November 1847. They discuss the Mexican-American war and United States politics during that period through articles and hand-drawn cartoons. The newspapers specifically talk about the war, Colonel Santa Anna, the US and Mexican governments, Wall Street financier Jacob Barker, Reverend Colonel James Hazard Perry, and events happening in Jamaica.

    The theatre in Los Angeles

    The manuscript, which Alfred Jensen wrote for the Los Angeles Federal Theatre Project, covers the history of theater in the United States and more specifically in Los Angeles. The manuscript includes an appendix listing plays that were performed in Los Angeles, the theater in which they were performed, the opening dates, and duration of the plays. In his history of the theater Jensen specifically talks about the following early American playwrights: William Dunlap, John Howard Payne, John Augustus Stone, Mercy Otis Warren, Hugh H. Brackenridge, and Royall Tyler. Jensen also covers the early history of movies and some of its actors including John Barrymore as well as the development of the Federal Theatre Project.
