Commonplace book : manuscript
Manuscripts
A manuscript commonplace book, with text written in several different hands. The volume is written mostly in English but also contains French and German; though no country of origin is identified, it appears to be mainly British in subject. The text includes seven pages of index in the beginning of the volume; there are also rough drawings in pencil and pen, as well more finely executed pen and ink illustrations. The text covers an extraordinary range of subjects, including technical inventions and developments, animal husbandry, recipes, political comment, sports, current events, travel, medicinal cures, economics, wine, and many other topics. The volume is bound in late 18th century three-quarter calf gilt, red edges, with some wear to the binding.

Benjamin Franklin portraits, 1777-1880: album
Manuscripts
This album contains over 100 portraits of Benjamin Franklin. They range in date from 1777 to about 1880 and include engravings, etchings, and other illustrations. The majority of them were acquired in 1907 at the sale of engravings from the collection of Hon. James T. Mitchell, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania (the title page from that sale catalog is included with the volume along with a numbered listing of the illustrations). Fourteen prints were later added to the volume. There is a handwritten note at the beginning of the volume by a J. M. Fox. The note is regarding the contents of the volume and is dated April 1908.

Die Vierundzwanzig Alten : [manuscript]
Manuscripts
ff. 1-320; f. 320v blank. [Otto von Passau]. [Vierundzwanzig Alten]. Incipit: Aller erste alte wiset dich minnende sele uff dich selber daz du vor uß betrahten solt. Explicit: An der heiligen himelfursten oben marien zů der lichtmesse. Des Jores do men zalte M ccc lxxx und sechs Jor. Amen. Anno xxxi Jor et cetera. Rubric: Diß ist der ane vang des bůches und vohet hie Amen. German. See W. Schmidt, Die vierundzwanzig Alten Ottos von Passau. Palaestra 212 (Leipzig 1938), for a list of the incunable editions and 113 manuscripts, including HM 1082 on pp. 85-86. In this manuscript, the names of the Elders are absent from the headings; the Discourse of the 13th Elder, f. 147v, begins incorrectly: "Got uesteclichen vergihe ich dritzehender alte lop und rům der ewigen wisheit . . . ," thus interrupting the alphabetical sequence of initials of each Discourse by use of a "G" instead of the expected "N" (I/J and U/V as one each; W at the end). Leaves missing between ff. 53-54 and 64-65 with the beginning of the eighth and ninth Elders' Discourses; f. 208rb, blank, but text is complete. The text is preceded by a chapter list and a prologue.

Album of works for Jack London's "Children of the Frost,"
Manuscripts
Album of original watercolors and charcoal sketches for the French edition of Jack London's "Children of the Frost." The drawings are primarily vibrant and expressionistic portraits of Eskimos, reminiscent of the work by Georges Rouault. Some of the illustrations depict a progression with the final image at the beginning. For instance, following the "final" watercolor for "In the Forest of the North", there are at least 7 preliminary illustrations in charcoal and black watercolor showing different angles and variations. All eight illustrations found in the French edition of Jack London's "Children of the Frost" are represented in this volume.
