Item is undated and incomplete; orders were released as Special Orders No. 165 on June 19, 1863 by Lieutenent Colonel John A. Rawlins, according to Papers of Ulysses S. Grant.

Dr. Merritt Starr and his friend were hunting around Resurrection Bay when the 1964 Good Friday Alaska Earthquake hit. In this letter to his family, he recounts story of surviving the earthquake, landslide and resulting tsunami. The letter further recounts the immediate aftermath and the reconstruction in the weeks after the disaster.
