    George Fitman writes to his otherwise unidentified uncle that he has recovered from a severe case of "tifoid fever" that came close to claiming his life. As a result, he is in a bad way, out of money and unable to work. He gives a description of San Francisco, and describes the plights and experiences of the gold miner.

    Malcolm King letter to Arthur Lee Kellogg

    In this letter to his nephew, addressed "Artie Kellogg, Esq.," Malcolm King thanks him for the letter he sent along with his "Auntie Emma's" and reminds him to take care of his "Papa and Mama." King also reminds that "if Lucy is there, don't let her eat too much melon." The letter is signed "your Uncle Malcolm."
