This collection is arranged in two parts--Manuscripts and Correspondence. While the bulk of the collection contains questionnaires ("Modele de La Formule No. 4") and surveys ("Liste No. II") written in French, select materials contain correspondence, publication announcements, and various drafts of Green's publication of Andrea Alciati and His Books of Emblems: A Biographical and Bibliographical Study, which was later published in 1872. Museums, university libraries, public libraries, personal libraries, and other institutions throughout Europe and the United States responded to Green's request to locate such materials. Such organizations included the Hague Royal Library, the Sir William Stirling-Maxwell Library, the Cambridge University Library, the Coppenhagen Royal Library, the Amiens Library, the Royal Library of the University of Turin, the Leuven University Library, and much more. Recipients who acted as the liaisons for the aforementioned repositories included modern emblem specialists (G.S. Cautley and Sir William Stirling-Maxwell), librarians, and library staff. Since a large extent of the materials received were written in English, French, German, and Italian, different spelling variation of the name Andrea Alciati were used including Andreas Alciatus and Andrea Aliciato.

The majority of the letters were written by Bailey to his step-father, Professer George Washington Keely, who was a professor of mathematics and natural philosophy at Waterville College, Maine. The first letter was written by Bailey while a cadet at West Point, but by the second letter he was already assistant professor at West Point. There are five (5) letters by Bailey to his mother Jane Keely and one to his sister Eliza Keely. Many of Bailey's letters contain hand-drawn sketches. Subjects of his letters include his work, experiments, and teaching; microscopes; botany and botanist John Torrey; his personal life (marriage, children, etc.); working with Louis Agassiz; algae; chemistry; and trying his hand at daguerreotypes.

Manuscript: Pillars of Gold

The collection consists of Lucile Selk Edgerton's professional papers, including the manuscripts of unpublished novels, original sketches meant to accompany her works of fiction, assorted printed magazines containing her published stories, copies of her published novels Pillars of gold and In walked Anny, some printed items, and ephemera. Part of the collection is made up by essays and research notes related to California history, and includes essays on Charles F. Wells, Thomas H. Blythe, Earl Rogers, Charlie Utting, C.E. Wells, and "Wild Horse Bill," as well as a variety of essays on the history of the Palo Verde Valley, the City of Blythe, and water reclamation around Isabella Lake. Many of the California research notes were compiled by Edgerton's son, Dean Edgerton, Jr. Also included is a bound volume with notes on his World War II experiences.

This collection contains approximately 870 publications and printed items, produced by various organizations, related to hospitals, medicine, medical education, and public health, chiefly in Southern California in the 20th century. The materials were compiled as part of the library of the Los Angeles County Medical Association Collection, a professional institution designed to regulate and encourage the development of the medicine in Los Angeles. The bulk of the collection consists of programs for meetings, conventions, and congresses; annual reports for medical societies, hospitals, and medical schools; and doctor, staff, and medical student directories. In addition, there are reprints of speeches and addresses; yearbooks for medical schools; commemorative, biographical, and historical publications; some original historical documents; by-laws and founding documents; and some planning and administrative documents. The materials include items produced by nearly 200 different authors, though many organizations are represented by only a few items. There are over 140 items published by or about the Los Angeles County Medical Association. The collection also contains seven boxes of catalog cards created by the Los Angeles County Medical Association describing the materials in the collection.

Materials related to Dana Gioia's work as a poet, essayist, and editor as well as his roles as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and Poet Laureate of California. The Writings series is divided into Poetry, Other Writings, and Publications, and includes drafts, galleys, published versions, and reprints of Gioia's poems, essays, and other writings, as well as notes, correspondence, reviews, and other related documents. The Professional series includes materials related to Gioia's work with the NEA, including documentation of his NEA nomination and confirmation; his congressional testimony; reports; publicity; and working documents and correspondence related to NEA programs such as The Big Read, Poetry Out Loud, NEA Jazz Masters, and others. There is also correspondence, press coverage, a scrapbook, and other documentation of Gioia's tenure as California Poet Laureate; and materials related to his 2007 Stanford University commencement address, including drafts of the speech, responses, and reprints. The Correspondence series is comprised primarily of Gioia's letter and email correspondence with other poets, publishers, and scholars, and also includes some biographical and other material related to each correspondent. The Broadsides and posters series includes poetry broadsides authored by Dana Gioia and others, and a few posters related to Gioia's poetry.
