Edwin and Paul E. Aldrich papers

This collection consists mostly of business correspondence from Morris W. Smith and James A. Blanton to Edwin and Paul E. Aldrich. They detail the efforts made in mining the Apex lode and digging the Narragansett Tunnel and go into the daily work Smith and Blanton carried out managing the companies that were hired to work the mining sites. There are several letters from corporations in which the Aldriches held stock which give information on the status of the corporation or are requests for a proxy vote. Of note is the letter dated February 19, 1897 from Morris W. Smith to Edwin Aldrich (HM 63987), which describes his opinion of the election of William McKinley (1843-1901) as the twenty-fifth president of the United States.

Includes patent applications for improvements to a portable extension ladder, with illustrated descriptions (1889), and for a casement-window operating device, also with an illustrated description (1914); letters from the Barrington Trading Company in Sydney, Australia, regarding product distribution (1917); letter of recommendation for Odle from the Standard Door and Sash Co. (1914); a license agreement between Odle and the United States Metal Products Company (1915); and letters of suggestion for improvement to streetcar design and city streets near Hollenbeck Park.
