Description: An eye witness account of the invasion of Ohio Moravian towns of Salem, Gnadenhutten, and New Shonbrunn by a troop of Wyandotes, Delawares, and Shawnee under the command of the British Agent of Indian Affairs McKee in the summer of 1781. The anonymous author, apparently a Moravian missionary, described the events in Apr. - Sept. 1781, including the capture of missionaries David Zeisberger, Johann George Jungman, Gottlieb Senseman, William Edwards, Johann Heckelwelder, and Michael Jung with their families as well as the Christianized Indians. The captives were carried off to Upper Sandusky

Manuscripts

A manuscript volume set of lectures in two sections; taken down (in 19th century German script) by a student named "Wilrich" at, presumably, a Berlin technical school. The first set of lectures (April-June, 1829), by Johann Friedrich Dorn, is a complete treatise, covering all aspects of brewing technology, including formulas for making various kinds of beers, spirits, wines, cognacs, liqueurs, and brandies; with tables and illustrations and a large manuscript hand-colored folding plate depicting a distilling machine, with a two-page explanation and a printed broadside advertisement for a measuring instrument. The second set of lectures (June 1829), by Johann Gottfried May, concern textile manufacture and include references to Europe and North America. Bound in contemporary pastepaper boards, with some wear to the corners and spine.

Jacques-Julien Houtou de La Billardière letter to Monsieur L'Héritier

Manuscripts

Letter written by Jacques-Julien Houtou de La Billardière to French botanist [Charles Louis] L'Héritier (1746-1800). The letter states that La Billardière sent specimens to L'Héritier for Baltic German botanist [Johann Gerhard] König (1728-1785) and British botanist [Sir James Edward] Smith (1759-1828). The letter, written from Paris in 1791, is in French; one page consists of the address.

Two advertisement flyers from the O-P Craft Co., Inc., of Sandusky, Ohio, circa 1935. Env. 1 contains a 4-page reprint from Everyday Art Magazine entitled "The Growing Popularity of Home and School Crafts" by Earle F. Opie. The magazine excerpt describes the "pleasures and possibilities" of art craft work and promotes the use of O-P Craft products. The flyer is illustrated with both completed and incomplete projects (e.g. examples of crayonexing, carving). Envelope 2 contains a 6-page (i.e. a single sheet folded into thirds) illustrated flyer/catalog of O-P Craft products and supplies entitled "O-P Craft Articles for Hand Decoration: Projects of Beauty for Home, Gift, or Profit." Some of the items offered for sale are O-P Craft color charts, Crayonex crayons, paint-by-number fabric designs, Prang tempera paints and craft mats. Title supplied by cataloger.

Three manufacturer's advertisements from the O-P Craft Co., Sandusky, Ohio, ca. 1935. Each of the flyers is printed on one side of a sheet; one of the advertisements is in color. The colored flyer, entitled O-P Craft Articles for Hand Decoration, is divided into two halves; each half shows images of hand-painted items against a black background. The represented are listed in the center column: "bracelets, rings, plates, buttons, napkin holders, buckles, mats, trinket boxes, No. 1700 Box, book-end, candle holder, and No. 1700 hinged box." No prices are given. The second flyer, entitled Ideas-Helps: O-P Craft for Designing-Decorating, illustrates craft projects. Rings, wooden bowls and plates, boxes, and craft mats are arranged on the flyer in groups with suggestions for use. Prices are not listed. The third leaflet, entitled New: O-P Craft Glass Holders, features five images of painted glass holders along the right-hand side and an image of an unpainted wooden glass holder on the left-hand side with descriptive text between the two. Suggestions for their uses and prices per dozen are printed on the leaflet. Title supplied by cataloger.
