A large folio extra-illustrated volume containing twenty-six letters by John Wesley and single letters by Robert Southey, Charles Wesley, and George Whitefield. The volume also contains a few printed items and various engravings of John Wesley, Charles Wesley, George Whitfield, Robert Southey, Samuel Wesley, and locations associated with the Wesley family. The letter to an unidentified woman (1778 November 13, HM 57046) is a printed facsimile of the original letter in the Methodist Archives, Rylands University Library (Manchester, England). George Whitefield's letter (HM 57062) is addressed to "Mr. Blackwell at Mr. Martin's a Banker in Lombard Street in London" and is dated 1739 June 27. The letter to Rev. Samuel Furly (1758 March 7, HM 57036) is written by secretary John Jones.

John Wesley Vandevort collection
Manuscripts
The collection consists chiefly of letters, with some manuscripts and documents related to John Wesley Vandevort and his Pittsburgh holdings in the steel industry. There are also seven diaries related to Vandevort's tours of Europe and a 1878-1879 trip around the world with Andrew Carnegie (2 pocket diaries). Correspondents in the collection include: Henry Phipps (102 letters) and Andrew Carnegie and/or his wife Louise (8 letters). The collection also has a letterbook containing typewritten letters of an 1865 European tour by John Hallen Franks and thirty-six letters addressed to John Wesley Vandevort's brother, Robert T. Vandevort. There are also materials about the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Included are financial records such as accounts, bills, receipts, and statements.

The collection consists of letters, manuscripts, one letter book, a photograph album, and ephemera related to the life and activities of John Wesley North and his wife, Ann Loomis North. Subject matter includes the early history and settlement of Minneapolis and Northfield, Minnesota from 1849 to 1861; pioneer life in Nevada from 1861 to 1865; southern reconstruction in Tennessee from 1865 to 1869; the promotion and settlement of Riverside, California, and Fresno County, California from 1870 to 1890. Of note in the collection are three letters from John Wesley North to George S. Loomis related to the nomination of Abraham Lincoln for the presidency in 1860. The collection also includes newspaper clippings, photographs, two maps of Minnesota, and ephemera.

Charles Fletcher letters to James Gordon Bennett

HM 4004 is a letter addressed to Mr. Bennett, editor of the New York Herald, imploring that the enclosed letter addressing the Oregon Question be published in the Herald. This letter is signed by Charles Fletcher. HM 4005 is the enclosed letter mentioned in HM 4004, and is signed "An American Citizen," and discusses a potential British claim to the Oregon Territory. Both letters are dated 1846, January 26. These manuscripts may be related to HM 4001-4003.
