This letter, to an unknown addressee, is written on James' stationery, from Pasadena, California, June 5, 1920. It is a short note stating that he has been ill and is better and traveling to Salt Lake City "for a month of Mormon life." Included with the letter is an offprint of the article entitled "Charles F. Lummis: A Unique Literary Personage of Modern America," written by James (1912).

A collection of 266 items which consists of personal and professional papers of George Wharton James; the collection includes correspondence, lectures, sermons, articles, 2 scrapbooks, photographs, and ephemera (1871-1921). The manuscripts cover such topics as the Grand Canyon, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Native Americans, American literature and humor, religion, overseas travels, and biographical pieces on Jesse Benton Fřmont, William Ewart Gladstone, Lilla Leighton Lindley, William McKinley, Queen Victoria, and others. The correspondence includes letters and other material relating to the Robert Browning Centenary and letters from applicants for summer school at Echo Mountain, near Pasadena, California. The Addenda consists of letters and poems sent to James; the poems were probably intended for publication in Land of sunshine or Out west magazine and included are pieces by, among others, Thomas Bracken, Frona Eunice Wait, and Helen Hunt Jackson. The ephemera includes programs, lecture announcements, clippings and other printed material.

429 stereographs by photographers George Wharton James and G. L. Rose of the American Southwest with images of Native Americans, including Cahuilla Indians, and scenes in California, New Mexico, and Arizona. Views of Hopi and Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico (many scenes at Acoma Pueblo); portraits of Hualapai Indians and school children in Arizona; canyons and landscape of the Southwest, including the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest. Notable in the collection are G. W. James's photographs of the Cahuilla Indian woman "Ramona" speaking into his phonograph, and other Cahuilla scenes published in his book "Through Ramona's Country." Other views in Southern California include the Plaza Church, Los Angeles; Mount Lowe railway and Alpine Tavern; San Juan Capistrano Mission; agriculture and farming in Riverside County, including fruit packing for the "Hemet Fruit Association"; Flores Adobe, South Pasadena; many views of Yosemite and horse and coach travelers; Mariposa Grove; camping wagons; hotel in Sonora, California. G. W. James appears in a few views; as does Horatio N. Rust and William W. Bass, trail builder in Grand Canyon.

Manuscripts
The collection includes correspondence, manuscripts, printed material and ephemera all related to astronomer Francis Gladheim Pease, his astronomy work, and the telescopes he designed. There are 13 letters by George Ellery Hale as well as a copy of an offprint of "Building the 200-Inch Telescope" by Hale (originally published in Harper's Magazine, November 1929). There is an offprint of "The Spectra of Four of the Temporary Stars" written by Pease and Walter S. Adams (published in Contributions from the Mount Wilson Solar Observatory No. 87 in 1914). The correspondence includes several prominent individuals including: Giorgio Abetti, Walter S. Adams, John A. Anderson, Andrew Carnegie (typed copy), Edward H. Davis, Elmer Grey, George Ellery Hale, Fred E. Harvey, Herbert E. Ives, Thornwell Jacobs, George Wharton James, Helen Keller (photocopy of letter), Albert A. Michelson, Robert A. Millikan, James R. Page, F. E. Wright, and the Bausch & Lomb Optical Company. There is also one letter addressed to Thomas Edison. The manuscripts include several items by F. G. Pease including a "Figuring Book" which contains his work on various telescopes and contains blueprints and a manuscript entitled "Notes on a 25-Foot Reflector."
