    Jesuit missionaries in Mexico letters

    Manuscripts

The first letter is from Juan María de Salvatierra, S.J. to Antonio Nuñez de Miranda, S.J., the Jesuit Provincial, on the 12th or 30th of June 1680. From the mission of Santa Inés de Chínipas (in the modern day state of Chihuahua), Salvatierra writes to Nuñez de Miranda, asking permission to carry out the charge that the Father Inspector ("Padre Visitador") Juan Fernández Cabero has assigned to him of working in the district ("partido") of Santa Teresa de Guasapares (also in Chihuahua). Salvatierra quotes a letter from another Father Inspector Juan Ortíz Zapato that spells out this charge. Salvatierra is to work with the Native Americans called "Usarones" (Husarones). HM 83155
