    In this letter written on a postcard, Helen Wills acknowledges the letter Thacher sent her and regrets that she will not be able to visit Ojai this year due to a long trip abroad. She is delighted to hear about the new asphalt courts and hopes she can play on them some day. Card is postmarked: Berkeley, Calif., 11:30 PM, Nov. 28, 1925.

    Mary K. Browne letter to Sherman Day Thacher

    Manuscripts

    Browne writes that she appreciates Thacher's approving attitude on her decision to go professional. She writes that she saw him at the Davis Cup matches but didn't bring herself to his attention because she did not know yet how he felt about her decision. She is now sorry that they didn't speak. On the topic of a playing in Ojai, she feels it's out of the question do to a full schedule. She mentions that Mr. Pyle [Charles C. (Cash and Carry) Pyle] plans to play at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, but she will refer this letter to him so he can answer direct. She goes on to write that for sentimental reasons, she would love to play in Ojai where she feels so much at home "and in the one place in America I feel that young tennis has had the most encouragement." She writes that if the tour she is one were not financial in nature she might have been able to play in Ojai. She hopes that Pyle sees his way clear to let them play. Letter is written on Vanderbilt Hotel, New York stationery.

    Herbert Weinstock letters to Andrew Rolle

    Herbert Weinstock is answering Andrew Rolle's inquiries for Alfred A. Knopf who was in Europe at the time and unable to answer Rolle's questions. These letters talk about a possible publication by Rolle entitled "Flight Below the Border." Weinstock states "I am sorry to say that it is not a book we believe we could publish...it is really a book for a university press...."

    This small collection chiefly contains correspondence between lawyer John Alexander Wills and his wife, Charlotte Le Moyne Wills, before and during the American Civil War, and a few letters between Charlotte Le Moyne Wills and her daughter, Madeline Francis Wills. In addition, there are several manuscripts pertaining to the French history in Gallipolis and Gallia County, Ohio. Ephemera includes newspaper clippings and a drawing of the plan purchase by the Ohio Company and Scioto Land Company.

The majority of them are from his time in Colorado (1875 to 1876), but there are several written from Los Angeles in the 1880s. There are also three letters by Wills to his sister Madeline F. Wills. Also included are three cabinet cards of William LeMoyne Wills, a Christmas card, photocopies of newspaper articles, and collection information. Twelve of the letters are typed copies; the Huntington does not have the originals.
