    A collection of 74 items from 1795 to 1822, which consists of personal, political, and legal correspondence of William Sullivan; the collection consists entirely of retained copies of his letters. The largest group comprises letters dealing with Sullivan's early legal career from 1796 to 1798, including his involvement in collecting bad debts for General Henry Lee. Also included are letters written by Sullivan to his family during his journey to Philadelphia and Virginia in 1796. The letters dating from 1811 to 1812 contain political correspondence and deal chiefly with the foreign policy and the Federalist strategies for the impending Presidential election.

    Foreword to the diary of William Ingraham Kip

    Handwritten foreword to Joseph A. Sullivan's intended publication of the diary of California Episcopal Bishop William Ingraham Kip (1811-1893). The forward traces the history of the Protestant Church in the San Francisco area during the 1850s, as well including a brief history of the Kip family and a biography of William Kip. The second half of the foreword focuses on James Edward Oglethorpe (1696-1785), founder of the Georgia colony. The book was apparently never published.

The letters involve congratulations from Sullivan to the Chandlers on the opening of The Music Center, and an invitation to attend a dinner in NYC with Sullivan, then Norman Chandler's responses.

    The manuscript contains two orderly books. The first covers the time period from June 20, 1775 to October 16, 1776, and comprises orders issued by William Moultrie during his command of the defense of Sullivan's Island. Also included are orders issued by Cristopher Gadsen, and Robert Howe, then Colonel of the 2nd Regiment of North Carolina.

    Musical score of incidental music used for a production of Macbeth: [proofs]

    These proof sheets of music are corrected and annotated, probably by Sir Arthur Sullivan. Also included is a letter from Walter Smythe to Messrs. Henderson, Dec. 5, 1888, regarding the engraving of the music. This incidental music was used by Sir Henry Irving in his 1888-1889 revival of Macbeth.
