The letterbook includes both personal and business correspondence of J. M. Seibert, the Wells, Fargo & Company general agent in Mexico City. Subjects discussed are: William Jennings Bryan, Edward Henry Harriman, John J. Valentine, and real estate, copper, gold, and silver mining, coffee plantations, and business schemes in Mexico. There are also detailed descriptions of Mexico, and more specifically, Mexico City. The majority of the letters deal with Seibert's personal investments and business dealings; although some of the discussion pertains to Wells, Fargo & Company's investments and real estate purchases

James Edward Glazier's Civil War experience is reflected in his letters to his parents, brother Charles, and friend Annie G. Monroe. He details his training in Annapolis, Maryland, Burnside's Expedition to the Carolinas, and his work in the hospital. A letter from his brother Ezra deals with religious aspects of the Civil War. In his diaries after the Civil War, Glazier writes about farming on the Pacific Coast from 1868 to 1882, his work, expenses, family news, social life, including Fourth of July celebrations, tent revivals, and the reunion of the 23rd Massachusetts Regiment in 1888.

This set of four letters deals with various aspects of administration of the Spanish colonies of New Spain, including the missions. HM 16573 and HM 16574 (which also contain photograph facsimiles) are addressed to Felipe Barri, and dated November 30, 1771 and June 4, 1772. HM 16575 and HM 16576 are addressed to Felipe de Neve, and dated November 12, 1774 and March 26, 1776. In Spanish.

The collection consists of 61 letters addressed to the literary agent James Brand Pinker or to his sons, Eric (1891-1973) and Ralph (1900-1959), from a number of literary figures. The letters mostly discuss business matters handled through Pinker's London or New York offices. The collection includes letters from Freda Uhl Strindberg concerning the legal and financial affairs of Russian writer Mikhail Petrovich Art︠s︡ybashev (1878-1927); there are also letters in the collection concerning the affairs of writer Arnold Bennett.
