    An album containing 38 cabinet card studio portraits showing the family and friends of Caroline Adelaide Lankershim, the wife of Los Angeles land developer James Boon Lankershim. 26 of the photographs are of women of varying ages, including one of a young woman, presumably a Mills Seminary classmate, with the handwritten inscription on the verso: "Belle of Mills Sem. Sept. 19 1878, To Carrie from Jane." A photo by K. Takamura of Yokohama is hand-tinted. The photographs are from various studios in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City, especially Taber (San Francisco, California) and Bradley & Rulofson (San Francisco), and from Falk (New York City, New York), T.E. Stanton (Los Angeles, California), F.G. Schumacher (Los Angeles, California), and Dames & Butler (San Francisco, California).

    This small group of material contains personal and business papers of Blas Aguilar and members of his family. It consists of correspondence, an untitled poem, a play "Coloquio de los Pastores," an account book, a promissory note, receipts, mortgages, and deeds. There are also baptismal records from the San Juan Capistrano and San Luis Rey missions. All of the items are in Spanish. It deals with San Juan Capistrano, San Diego, and Los Angeles, California. There are a few letters written from Arizona and Nevada.

    San Francisco company account book

    Manuscripts

    A brief account book kept by an unidentified San Francisco company that subcontracted for several mining companies in California in the 1860s. The ledger shows segregated payment entries between laborers of different races, represented here by white, Black, and Chinese workers. It also shows entries for printed works done by the noted printer Edward Bosqui. The volume has one tally sheet tipped in and one promise to pay agreement glued in.

    The account book records the Golden Fleece's activities at Honolulu, Hong Kong, and San Francisco. It includes some of the names of the officers and crew, monthly balance statements, payments received, wages paid to the crew, and daily expenses for equipment and supplies. Also includes information regarding the ships which which the Golden Fleece did business

    Caroline Corry commonplace book

    A Victorian era commonplace book containing poems, drawings, and locks of hair. The original poems include an acrostic of Caroline Corry's name and "Lines for an Album," "Friendship," and "Memory," as well as many unattributed pieces; the volume also includes several attributed pieces including poems by Joanna Baillie, Geoge Gordon, Lord Byron, and Reginald Heber. The volume is illustrated with a pen and ink drawing of a man, a pencil drawing of a dog's head, and several pasted-in engravings of various people and scenes. The volume also contains one page with 28 locks of hair stitched onto the page; each lock of hair is labeled with a name, and, in some cases, a date, of Corry's family and friends. The volume is bound in contemporary quarter red roan with faded blue-gray sides, with some damage to the spine and one loose page laid into the volume.
