    Santa Monica Athletic Club and Deauville Club

    This collection contains photographs of the members and grounds of the Southern California beach and golf clubs that formed part of the Los Angeles Athletic Club in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The clubs represented are the Santa Monica Athletic Club and Deauville Club (Items 1-16 and 74-83, 65-98); the Hermosa Beach Surf and Sand Club (Items 17-55, and 84); the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades (Items 56-65); and the Long Beach Pacific Coast Club (Items 66-73). The photographs, presumably created as promotional images, include images depicting clubhouse buildings and rooms, as well as members engaged in leisure activities such as sunbathing, swimming, beach volleyball, and golf. Nearly half of the photographs are close-up shots of beach-goers, often young women posing in swimsuits. One set of images depicts women in bathing suits posing for a 1932 Santa Monica Athletic Club fashion show, include two photographs of child actress Shirley Temple (Items 97-98). The items consist of 98 8 x 10 in. black-and-white copy prints with corresponding film negatives, as well as an additional box containing approximately 70 unidentified/unprinted negatives and 1 reel of 16mm film labeled "Jess Willard & strong man, LAAC roof 1933."

    Zonta Club of Pasadena records

    The Zonta Club of Pasadena records consist of annual reports, awards, clippings, correspondence, financial records, a guest book, membership lists, minutes, newsletters, photographs, and printed ephemera, dating from 1929-2015. The records contain material related to the club's fundraising efforts in order to support local services for the community such as combatting the AIDS epidemic, child care, and providing fellowships to women seeking advance degrees in the sciences. In addition to financial assistance, the club staffed the Huntington Memorial Hospital gift shop. Notable individuals referenced in the records include Grace Nicholson and Amelia Earhart. Material such as newsletters and international meetings related to Zonta International are also included.

    Brief history of the Woman's Club of Lake Arrowhead from 1926 to 1953. Includes a list of the Club's charter members and a recounting of its accomplishments and areas of concern, primarily forestry and environmental conservation, as well as community development. Also includes a cover letter from Mrs. G.A. Chapman dated May 1953.

    Fifteen photographs of the beach area of the Santa Monica Athletic Club and 1 interior view of the Deauville Club dining room, in Santa Monica, California. The images of the beach-goers depict leisure activities including beach volleyball (with the Deauville Club building in the background), sunbathing, children playing in the sand, and a card game. Eight of the photographs are close-up shots of young women in bathing suits sitting on the sand. Handwritten labels on the negative envelopes list various dates for the images between August 1930-June 1931. The Deauville dining room image (Item 1) is undated.

    Ebell Club of Los Angeles Collection

    This collection contains 42 items related to the Ebell Club of Los Angeles, California, chiefly dating from the late 1890s-early 1900s. The manuscripts section contains 17 items. There is a list of the charter members of the Ebell club, including comments regarding the members, the minute books for the first six years of the club, an essay describing the mission of the club, and the architectural specifications for the Rest Cottage by architect Julia Morgan. The ephemera section contains event programs, monthly club schedules, pamphlets regarding the activities of the club, a Ebell Magazine from 1930, an itemized survey of documents and ephemera in the Ebell Club's possession in 1959, and a program for the Seventh Annual Meeting Los Angeles District C.F.W.C. There is also a scrapbook created by Mrs. Hazel Smith with Ebell Magazine clippings featuring key members from the late 1920s. The scrapbook also contains short notes regarding a few of the members and club events.
