Benjamin M. Read letter to Walter Douglas

Manuscripts

In this signed typewritten letter on Benjamin Read's professional letterhead, he thanks Walter Douglas for his prompt response to his letter and thanks him for his assistance, adding that he will give him credit in the next edition of the Illustrated History of New Mexico. Read also says that he would like to call on Douglas in the near future to examine the documents he has. He further requests additional information on the Gerónimo de Rivera Rendón bigamy case of 1603 along with Douglas's own credentials and citations. He closes by writing that he is send Douglas a copy of his large History of New Mexico by tomorrow's express.

Jerome B. Chaffee letter to Alphonso Taft

Manuscripts

Chaffee requests the appointment of Judge Decker to the position of United States District Attorney for Colorado, and gives his support. Decker is named "William" in the letter. There is also a brief endorsement of Decker signed by James B. Belford. Includes two-piece printed clipping with short biography of Chaffee, and one with a biography of Westbrook S. Decker.

Edward Deas Thompson letter to Peter Hardeman Burnett

Manuscripts

Sir Thomson requests Governor Burnett's assistance concerning the seizure by pirates of the Australian schooner "Helen" during her voyage from Sydney to Moreton Bay, Queensland. Reports indicate the ship was then taken to California. Also included is a testimory endorsing Sir Thomsen's identity, signed by James H. Williams, United States consul for the Port of Sydney.

HM 80452. Typewritten letter signed by Wallace Stevens to Wilson E. Taylor reads, "Dear Taylor: Thanks for the clipping from the Herald-Tribune. I shall bear this in mind. Apparently the thing will open until autumn. I have visited this particular museum several times; it is quite a different matter from an ordinary museum. Yours, W. Stevens."
