  Manuscripts

  An illustrated commonplace album with transcribed verses, watercolors, and drawings; the album was a gift to Ann Jordan from her brother W. P. Jordan in 1828. The album contains 27 watercolor illustrations including flowers and butterflies (the latter usually cut and pasted to various leaves), and nine pencil sketches. Also included are poems by Thomas H. Bayly, Mary Ann Browne, Lady Byron, Lord Byron, Benjamin Franklin, Oliver Goldsmith, Peter Pindar (whose real name was John Wolcot), Ann Radcliffe, and George R. Sims. The album contains a number of blank pages and is bound in contemporary red half morocco; the corners and spine are worn and damaged.

  Commonplace book--poetry : manuscript, 1595-1675

  Manuscripts

  Part 1 is a verse miscellany of 206 pages which includes 52 poems by John Donne, 11 poems by Thomas Carew, 10 poems by Richard Corbett, and 11 poems by or attributed to Robert Herrick; the poems dating up to ca. 1637. Part 2 is a verse miscellany which includes 59 poems by Donne; dates to ca. 1620-1633.

  This collection contains 10 manuscripts and 18 letters either written by or related to American author Charles Warren Stoddard. Manuscripts consist of poems by Stoddard, as well as a contemporary copy of a poem by Thomas Bailey Aldrich, and two reminiscences by poet Ina D. Coolbrith about John Greenleaf Whittier and Bret Harte and Stoddard. Includes letters to Stoddard from Samuel Clemens (contemporary copy) "Amber" (Martha Everts Holden); Grace Keeler Machin; Alice Macleod; Toby Rosenthal; Edward Rowland Sill; Thomas Walsh; and Carrie Wyatt. There are also single images of Stoddard's friends Thérèse Yelverton and David Kalakaua, King of Hawaii, as well as two envelopes and two printed articles by Stoddard.

  Manuscripts

  Letters, manuscripts, autographs, drawings, and prints related to James Wolfe, collected for their autograph value. Most of the letters are addressed to Wolfe's mother and concern's his effects and papers. The correspondents include Thomas Bell, Wolfe's aide-de-camp; Welbore Ellis, the 1st Baron of Mednip; Philip Hardel, a London goldsmith; Thomas Fisher, an executor of Wolfe's estate; William Pitt, the Elder, , and Samuel Francis Swinden, Wolfe's tutor, George Warde and Charles Warde. Also included are letters from Mrs. Wolfe to Wolfe's friend William Weston (1740, Dec. 16); Lord Shelbourne to Wolfe (1758, January); Wolfe's fiancee, Katherine Lowther to Mrs. Wolfe (1759, Oct. 25), and a note, in the hand of Thomas Bell, written at Montmorenci instructing "Major Dalling to come to Headquarters with both the captured women").
