An autograph, signed, and undated letter written from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; contextual details identify the addressee as F. Marion Crawford and date the letter either 1891, February or 1893, March. The letter is addressed to "Dear Sir" and Robert Louis Stevenson admits he did not think very highly of Crawford's work when he first read it; he has now revised that opinion and praises Crawford's writing and career making this a "fan" letter from one celebrated author to another. On the verso of the letter is an extended signed postscript concerning music.

This material includes four unsigned and undated pages in the hand of Robert Louis Stevenson. The first page is a pencil drawing of a masted ship; the next page begins "The childish old man..." and contains quotes and notes from William Wyatt Gill's "Myths and Songs from the South Pacific" (London : Henry S. King, 1876). The following page is numbered "58" and headed "Part V / Whites and White Influence in the Pacific," which appears to be part of a manuscript held by the Huntington: drafts of "In the South Seas" (mssHM 2421).The final page is a numbered list dealing with debts, mortgages, and bills.

Letterbook of George Gostling, Doctors Commons proctor for prize administrations in High Court of Admiralty. The volume has a modern binding, with the label of Robert A. Cassall, Stationer, pasted onto inside front cover; there is some water damage, especially in the beginning of the volume, with some loss of text.

An account book and ledger from British merchant Robert Bristow's plantation, house, and stores in Lancaster and Gloucester Counties in Virginia. The ledger was used by Bristow to document inventories of home goods, Bristow's personal library, debts, copies of land patents and other legal documents, and lists of indentured and enslaved laborers; also included in the ledger are lists of his shares in Royal African Company ships. The volume is written in several hands, including Bristow's. The binding is not original but was rebound in full panelled calf from the bindery of restoration bookbinder Bernard Middleton; the volume is signed with Middleton's cypher and has his book label and a brief typed description pasted on the inside front cover.
