    William P. Reynolds letter to Edward J. Reynolds

    Manuscripts

    William writes that his plans to bring Edward to California have been delayed, as William has not yet had a chance to purchase a tract of land for farming and cattle. Nonetheless, he writes, "in a short time Sonoro & Chihuahua will belong to the U.S." and so there will be plenty of opportunity for surveying; William recommends that Edward "follow the study in its higher branches." He also recommends drafting and that Edward "be a more skillful penman."

    William Henry Harrison, headquarters Lower Sandusky, Ohio, letter to Governor Isaac Shelby, Frankfort, Kentucky :

    Manuscripts

    Harrison writes to the governor of Kentucky during the War of 1812 requesting troops be raised in his state for upcoming operations. He invites Shelby to accept a command "that would be nominal only," invoking the example of Scipio and Lucius. Has sent his aide-de-camp Major Trimble in person to communicate particulars.

    George C. Perkins letter to William Logue

    Manuscripts

    Perkins is ready to accept Logue's proposal "without any more talk" and hopes he "will be more prosperous in the years to come" for his "perseverance deserves to be rewarded." All Logue must do is pay the $500 principal, which Perkins advises him to do.

    Gunnison instructs Kern to meet him in Chicago to pick up some equipment for their journey west. From there, they will travel to St. Louis for additional supplies.

    Richard H. Kern letter to Augustus Murray Cathcart

    Manuscripts

    Kern writes that his men have just returned from an expedition "against the Navajoes." He will send Cathcart drawings later in the fall. He requests an extract of Cathcart's journal, and mentions letters of John C. Frémont. Kern would have returned earlier, but he was investigating the murder of one of his men. With cross-hatched note signed "Frémont."
