Bound in textured black material. The title, "Vera Cruz II" is embossed in the center of cover in gold lettering. The number "84" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are of military officers and personnel, US Naval ships, and the city of Veracruz during the American Occupation of 1914. Also includes a series of photos taken of oil fields in Tampico; photographic postcards taken by well known photographers such as W. H. Horne and Walter P. Hadsell; series of photos of London taken by his friend and fellow correspondent Jimmie Hare.

This collection consists of papers related to Albert Kimsey Owen, the rise and fall of the Topolobampo utopian colony in Sinaloa, Mexico (1886-ca. 1903), railroad development, and Owen's survival of the wreck of the Vera Cruz in 1880. The collection also includes a diary, newspaper clipping scrapbooks, and notebooks of Owen. There are also some later notes and correspondence of Professor George Renner related to the disposition and custody of Owen's papers in the 1940s-1950s.

The collection, which deals with the Mexican War, consists of correspondence, military orders, reports, lists of prisoners, and paroles of honor. Participants include: William Orlando Butler, Sylvester Churchill, Ethan Allen Hitchcock, George W. Hughes, Joseph E. Johnston, William L. Marcy, Thomas Marshall, Dixon S. Miles, Henry Lee Scott, Winfield Scott, Lorenzo Thomas, Henry J. Wilson, the Adjutant-General's Office, and the U. S. Inspector General's Office. The material deals with: troop movements, food and supplies, recruiting and enlistments, mustering of volunteers, as well as Jalapa, Puebla, Tampico, and Veracruz, Mexico. Also included are 31 paroles and lists of Mexican prisoners captured in the spring of 1847 and at the Battle of Cerro Gordo. The collection also contains the signed paroles of Brigadier Generals Anastasio Torrejón, and Antonio Gaona of the Mexican Army.
