The letterbook includes both personal and business correspondence of J. M. Seibert, the Wells, Fargo & Company general agent in Mexico City. Subjects discussed are: William Jennings Bryan, Edward Henry Harriman, John J. Valentine, and real estate, copper, gold, and silver mining, coffee plantations, and business schemes in Mexico. There are also detailed descriptions of Mexico, and more specifically, Mexico City. The majority of the letters deal with Seibert's personal investments and business dealings; although some of the discussion pertains to Wells, Fargo & Company's investments and real estate purchases

Watkins writes that he is doing well, but not as well as he had hoped. He is in on two claims at around two hundred dollars each, but is not sure where he will go next, for "claims in this part of the mines is failing fast." He is enjoying the California climate, but there are "hardly any wimin girls Darn scarce." With negative photostat facsimile.

Simpson informs Kern that had he heard of Kern's plans to return to St. Louis earlier, Simpson would have hired him as an assistant, and sends his regrets. He also writes that Kern should soon receive a congressional copy of the Navajo report.

J. J. Abbott letter to J. P. Carpenter
Manuscripts
Letter, written by J. J. Abbott to his friend and fellow teacher in Alabama, J. P. Carpenter. Abbott describes his journey to Mississippi, the city of Hudsonville, the school at which he is working, some school clubs that he founded, and his intent to attend Andover Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. Abbott also gives opinions about the South, slavery, and abolitionists.

Daily Report of Detective Edward J. Long

This volume is the daily log kept by Detective Edward J. Long during 1929 in Los Angeles, California. Each entry contains all the work he did that day including any arrests, phone calls, hours spent in court, interviews with potential witnesses or suspects, etc. The majority of the crimes in the book are robbery and burglary related. There are also nine loose items in the volume including miscellaneous notes, a report on gun sales, and several forms related to various suspects.
