John Milton Hay letter to James D. Hague
Manuscripts
In this letter, Hay is thanking Hague for sending him proofs from the biography of the geologist Clarence King entitled Clarence King memoirs: The helmet of Mambrino. The King Memorial Committee of the Century Association, of which James D. Hague was a member, published the biography in 1904. Although Hay returned the proofs to Hague, they are not with the letter.

The Mary Hallock Foote papers consist of forty letters and one manuscript sent by Foote to Century Magazine from 1886 through approximately 1902. The letters, some of which are addressed to Richard Watson Gilder, are mostly about publishing her own work, although a few discuss the struggle to unionize mines, especially in Idaho. The manuscript included is the short story "The Rapture of Hetty." Also included are one letter from Clarence Buel to Gilder and one letter from Gilder to Mr. Carey.

A collection of 218 items covering the years 1776 to 1895, which consists primarily of letters from publishers regarding Cheney's writings, especially his poetry, and letters from literary associates. Correspondents include: Ina Donna Coolbrith, Richard Watson Gilder, Edwin Markham, Joaquin Miller, Adolph Sutro, and Edmund Clarence Stedman. There is also one letter by Daniel Webster written shortly before his death. Several letters also deal with the Oakland Public Library and San Francisco Free Library.
