Also included are letters, copies of articles, both by Hessel and others, newspaper clippings, printed ephemera, and some photographs. The collection also includes a printed copy of Hessel's 1958 dissertation, "The Religious Thought of José Rizal: its context and theological significance," presented to San Francisco Theological Seminary, and two drafts. There are also a few copies of items written by José Rizal.

Letter, written by J. J. Abbott to his friend and fellow teacher in Alabama, J. P. Carpenter. Abbott describes his journey to Mississippi, the city of Hudsonville, the school at which he is working, some school clubs that he founded, and his intent to attend Andover Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. Abbott also gives opinions about the South, slavery, and abolitionists.
