    Colorado Territory Governor (Ledyard Wald, Lewis) to Hiram Barney

    The correspondence addressed to Hiram Barney during his time as Collector of the Port of New York from Lewis Ledyard Weld, the Secretary of State and acting governor of the Colorado territory during 1861-1862. Ledyard Weld is requesting a branch mint and assay office for Colorado to be supported; as a Bill had been introduced into Congress at the time of his letter.

    The Family papers, presumably collected by Hiram Barney's daughter, Sara Barney includes family correspondence arranged alphabetically by author, photographs of the family and family home, various forms of ephemera, and envelopes originally addressed to Hiram Barney. Also included are addenda items which contain religious books and literature inscribed by Hiram Barney and a carte-de-visite photograph of Hiram Barney (Brady's National Photographc Portrait Galleries) inscribed to Mrs. Buell.
