Chiefly correspondence, the collection also contains manuscripts (including diaries, address books of woman suffrage workers, poetry and music), printed matter and ephemera, large scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, some photographs, and an extensive collection of pamphlets and broadsides on the topic of woman suffrage. Subject matter represented in the collection includes the woman suffrage movement (particularly in Iowa, Illinois, and California), and related organizations (including the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association); religious and philanthropic organizations (including the Women's Christian Temperance Union); editorial and journalistic activities of Elizabeth Boynton Harbert; and Harbert family matters. Correspondents include: Susan B. Anthony, Rachel Foster Avery, Amelia Jenks Bloomer, Clara Dorothy Bewick Colby, Matilda Joslyn Gage, Helen Mar Jackson Gougar, Julia Ward Howe, Mary Ashton Rice Livermore, Caroline M. Seymour Severance, May Wright Sewall, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Frances Elizabeth Willard. The material previously housed in the seven green binders can be found in Boxes 10, 16, 17, and 19 (Binder 1 was previously Rare Book 408105).

    The addenda consists of correspondence between Elizabeth Boynton Harbert, William S. Harbert, and others. It also includes some manuscripts and drafts, materials related to the Harbert family (including letters to and from Arthur B. Harbert and Corinne B. Harbert), and miscellaneous newspaper clippings, ephemera, and a scrapbook. Of note is the Civil War era letters and telegrams between Elizabeth Boynton Harbert and William S. Harbert (1861-1865).
