    Series 5: Ships (1783-1854)

    The material in this series is arranged alphabetically by ship name. The ships in this series are mainly ones under the command of Graham Eden Hamond (1834-1838) as Commander-in-Chief, but there are also a small number of commercial transport, convict, whaling ships and ships on which Hamond served early in his career. There is also a small amount of material for the H.M.S. Beagle, under the command of Captain Robert Fitzroy, during the expedition of 1831-1836. The material includes ship's logs, ship's papers, correspondence, lists, receipts, returns, reports and vouchers.

    Series 8: Volumes, (1792-1838)

    Manuscripts

    The seven volumes relate to Graham Eden Hamond's naval career; a journal he kept on board the H.M.S. Phaeton (1792-1793) and volumes related to his time as Commander-in-Chief, including an Index to Orders and Correspondence, Standing Orders and Correspondence with the Admiralty.

    South American Station: Acknowledgment - Contracts for Provisions (1825 - 1838)

    A transnational collection of 18th-19th century material pertaining to three generations of a British Naval family. The collection consists of several generations of Hamond family correspondence, including political, business, naval, and parish letters, as well as a significant number of letters seeking naval patronage, military honors and available ship-board positions. In addition, the collection contains historical accounts, poems, memorials, memoranda and ephemera. The Hamond men were in the habit of recording, after the fact, important political and naval conversations via written "memorandum," including audiences with William IV and Lord Melville. The collection also includes family material such as wills, sermons, genealogical information, memoirs and information on family naval careers.

    The material in this series is arranged into two subseries: Royal Navy and Admiralty; the material is arranged in alphabetical and chronological order based on material type. The material is predominately related to Graham Eden Hamond's naval career and includes correspondence, maps, general orders, naval experiments, receipts and vouchers.
