Series 1: Correspondence and Documents, (1716-1926)
- Description
The correspondence and documents in this series are arranged chronologically. The series includes family letters from several generations of the Hamond family, including a small number of letters to and from female family members. The series also includes political, business, naval and parish letters, as well as a significant number of letters seeking naval patronage, military honors and available ship-board positions. In addition to correspondence, the series includes historical accounts, poems, memorials and memoranda. The Hamond men were in the habit of recording, after the fact, important political conversations via written "memorandum," including audiences with William IV and Lord Melville.
