The albumen print is annotated with the names and positions of the soldiers depicted including Henry Van Meter, John F. King, Oramel H. Abel, James W. Judy, George W. Mourer, Joseph M. McLane, and Alvin S. French. On the verso, there is a carte-de-visite studio portrait and an accompanying newspaper clipping obituary of Alvin S. French, the regiment's assistant surgeon.
