This collection contains the papers of English art historian Katharine Ada Esdaile (1881-1950), with the bulk of the materials relating to her research and writings on British monumental sculpture, sculptors, and church monuments from the medieval period to 19th century. Material types include personal writings, diaries, correspondence, business papers, family papers and photographs, research files and research notebooks, and miscellaneous published and unpublished materials. Notably the collection includes more than 600 chiefly pre-World War II visitor booklets and pamphlets produced locally by British churches and approximately 3500 photographs taken or collected by Esdaile of sculpture, often funerary monuments in English churches, ranging from large churches like Westminster Abbey to small rural parishes. This collection provides a resource for viewpoints on monumental sculpture in the early 20th century (for instance as represented in book reviews by Esdaile) and for information about Esdaile's experience as a woman art historian in the early 20th century. Given the broadness of Esdaile's scope, from medieval to 19th century British monumental sculpture, the collection is less useful for specific information about monuments or sculptors. In addition, many of Esdaile's attributions in her notes appear to have been based primarily on her own instincts and do not have citations. Many of Esdaile's notes are handwritten on small scraps of paper or are fragments, sometimes making the information difficult to parse. The collection is chiefly Esdaile's files, but the dates on some items (such as post-1950 booklets) indicate the collection was added to and used after her death, presumably by her son Edmund Esdaile, who also made notes on items in the collection and appears to have done the preliminary organization of the papers after Esdaile's death.

The collection consists of family and personal correspondence, family business papers, manuscripts, ephemera, photographs and books. The collection consists of materials from three generations of the Pease family from 1816 to 1974. The papers are organized chronologically in their respective series boxes. The majority of the papers consists of personal correspondence to members of the family. The correspondence is separated into four main divisions: the correspondence of E. M. Pease, Harriet A. (Sturtevant) Pease, Ned (Edmund Morris) Pease, Jr., and other correspondence. The subject matter of the personal correspondence consists of daily family activities, missionary work on the Marshall Islands, descriptions of raising children, traveling, family health and well-being, and theological/spiritual matters. A large portion of the correspondence consists of letters to and from Harriet A. (Sturtevant) Pease. The subject matter includes family matters, family estate concerns, and missionary work. Notable correspondence includes travel and missionary work letters to friends (letters dated 1877-1894) and consolatory letters after the death of her husband (letters dated 1906). A great deal of the personal correspondence is also authored by Ned (Edmund Morris) Pease, Jr. His correspondence is primarily addressed to his mother, Harriet A. (Sturtevant) Pease, and recounts his daily activities as a medical student, church and spiritual matters, business matters concerning the family estate, and his personal thoughts and desires. Notable correspondence includes his feelings for Clara Bradbury and their marriage (Mar. 3, 1907; Nov. 2, 1910), thoughts about his relationship with his mother (Jan. 22, 1911), arrival of daughter Phyllis (July 13, 1912), and the mention of the infantile paralysis epidemic in Boston, Massachusetts (Aug. 10, 1916).

This collection contains periodicals with content written by or about the poet, novelist, and short-story writer Charles Bukowski, covering a span from 1941 to 2009, and is a subset of the Charles Bukowski Printed Material Collection. The materials consist of nearly 400 issues of 248 periodicals that contain poems, short stories, interviews, excerpts, and drawings by Bukowski, as well as photographs of him, and articles or interviews about him, or in which he is mentioned. The materials span from Bukowski's first published short story "Aftermath of a Lengthy Rejection Slip," which was published in Story magazine in 1941, to obituaries and articles about Bukowski and posthumously printed poems and short stories that appeared after his death in 1994. The items range from small literary journals to large weekly news magazines published in a number of countries and in a variety of languages including English, German, and French. Approximately 90 periodical titles received with this collection are not included in this finding aid but are instead cataloged individually; they may be retrieved by doing a keyword search for "Charles Bukowski Printed Material Collection" in the Huntington Library Online Catalog: catalog.huntington.org. The collection inventory contains entries listing the periodical title, issue number, date, publisher and publisher location, language (if other than English), the titles, page numbers, and authors of the Bukowski-related pieces, and a short description of the content.
