Consists of a publisher's proof (complete draft text with page proofs corrected by Katharine and Arundell Esdaile); an annotated draft typescript fragment of Chapter V 'Neo-Hellenism & the Gothic Revival' – (pages 114-181); an original handwritten "Dedication" with note on change in dedication by Edmund Esdaile; and an undated review.

Provenance
Purchased by the Huntington Library in 1962. The collection was initially accessioned into the Huntington Art Reference Library in 1962. Sometime afterwards, the printed books and pamphlets were removed, separately catalogued, and shelved with the main body of the Art Reference Books, and the photographs were removed to the Photo Study Collection. In 2005, the Art Reference Library collection was merged into the main collection of the Huntington Library and the decision was made to re-integrate the printed material and photographs of the Esdaile collection into the papers.

    Includes one 1903 newspaper clipping concerning the restoration of the position of secretary at the British Museum; a program for the 1939 Conferment of Honorary Degrees ceremony by the University of Liverpool, where Arundell Esdaile received a degree of Doctor of Letters; the May 13, 1939, issue of the Liverpool Daily Post with account (page 6) of the awarding of the degree; three 1940 newspaper clippings about Arundell Esdaile's retirement from the British Museum; a 1944 library opening program; a 1944 clipping on Arundell Esdaile and his brother Alfred Esdaile. a 1958 genealogical clipping about Ann Arundell (d. 1649), presumably an ancestor; and an undated 3-page typescript biography of William Esdaile (1758-1837), presumably the grandfather of Arundell Esdaile, by an unidentified author.
