The collection is made up of correspondence, patents, photographs, and ephemera. The correspondence includes some original and contemporary copies of Edison's letters regarding the Phonoplex System of Telegraphy, the Edison Phonograph Toy Manufacturing Co., the use of paraphenylenediamine to manufacture phonograph records, the American Fine Arts Society, and the Society for Electrical Development, as well as a letter dismissing Charles H. Davids from his post as superintendent of the West Orange laboratory. There are additional items from the Edison-Bell Phonograph Corporation, Ltd. in England, as well as correspondence between Mina Miller Edison and Lester A. Grimes regarding a signed apron made from Thomas Edison's shirt, also included in the collection.

This subseries contains the papers of Albert Chavannes who served as Southern California Edison's corporate secretary from the 1930s to the 1960s. The subseries includes biographical information, clippings, correspondence, cost statements, flyers, indices, newsletters, organizational charts, pamphlets, reports, and other materials. Items reflect Chavannes' many roles, including those of SCE corporate secretary, member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and auditor in the Edison Comptroller's Department. The subseries includes materials created by Chavannes, as well as items collected by him. Files are arranged alphabetically by title, and chronologically thereafter.

The Southern California Edison Records consist of materials created, maintained, and collected by the company. The Southern California Edison Records contain books, catalogs, correspondence, journals, ledgers, log books, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photographs, press releases, reports, scrapbooks, and other materials documenting the history of the Southern California Edison (SCE) Company. The records cover the years 1848 to 1989 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1911 to 1965. The material is largely textual with the exception of a few non-paper items scattered throughout.
