Enslaved labor files
- Description
The Enslaved labor files are made up of a variety of items mostly all related to the enslaved people that were being held in slavery by Dickinson & Shrewsbury and other enslavers in the Virginia and West Virginia region from 1806 to 1863. There are approximately 30 lists of enslaved people held in slavery by Dickinson & Shrewsbury, including two notebooks. These lists often have the persons' name (often first name only), age, related family members, and the name of the enslaver who "hired" them out to Dickinson & Shrewsbury. The series also contains letters about "hiring out" enslaved people to the salt mines and passes for enslaved people to receive supplies, to travel, and sell items.
