The collection of approximately 1,030 items consists primarily of personal correspondence written by and to members of the Dane family. Many of the letters discuss family matters, and the largest group of letters were written by Ada Nutting Baker in Decatur, Michigan. There are also letters (1863-64) by James W. Nutting which discuss the Civil War. The collection also includes notes and source material used by George Ezra Dane in editing "Sketches of old block" and "Sojurn with royalty."
