Included are individual items related to finances of the Revolutionary War and Early Republic, including pensions paid to the war veterans, and John Jacob Astor's "proposal for loaning monies to the United States," (1813), a group of documents and letters relative to Nathaniel Denby, U.S. Naval agent in Marseilles in 1845-1851, and correspondents and documents addressed to various customs collectors and internal revenues agents, predominantly in Virginia

Collection of miscellaneous papers and correspondence of William H. Richardson. The bulk of the collection consists of financial records -- bills, receipts, promissory notes, etc, including a few items that document sale of slaves. Also included are a few personal letters addressed to William H. Richardson that discuss political news, Washington Canal and Rhode Island State Lottery, bear hunting, and other subjects. Also included are a few documents issued by Richardson as Adjutant General of Virginia (1862), and a letter of his son, William H. Richardson, Jr. who served in the Confederate Army

Included are rentals, leases, titles, and building contracts of real estate in Richmond, adjacent to the James River Canal, and surveys and deeds for property in Kent and Henrico Conties. There are a few personal letters, including ones discussing the trial of Aaron Burr (1807) and Fourth of July (1813), and a letter from John Clopton (1756-1816) about political and congressional news (1810)
