- This collection consists mostly of business correspondence from Morris W. Smith and James A. Blanton to Edwin and Paul E. Aldrich. They detail the efforts the Aldriches made in mining the Apex lode and digging the Narragansett Tunnel and go into the daily work Smith and Blanton carried out managing the companies that were hired to work the mining sites. Of note is the letter dated February 19, 1897 from Morris W. Smith to Edwin Aldrich (HM 63987), which describes his opinion of the election of William McKinley (1843-1901) as the twenty-fifth president of the United States.
