    One booklet entitled The Practical Use of "Drawlet" Drawing and Lettering Pens, published by Esterbrook Pen Mfg. Co., Camden, New Jersey, ca. 1925. This booklet is 16 pages in length, and promotes the use of Drawlet pens. Included are images of the 17 different nibs available, practical instructions, and numerous examples of advertisements, illustrations and lettering samples created using the Drawlet pens. Framing the title on the front cover is a border and an illustration of a parrot holding an umbrella and the back cover is blank except for a small printer's statement in the lower right-hand corner: "Printed in U.S.A. by Patterson & White Co." The inside of the front cover shows "Three Prize Winning Drawings submitted at I.A.D.M. Convention- St. Louis-1925". The inside of the back cover shows three "Convincing illustrations of effective work done with Drawlet Pens."

    One drawing book entitled Andrews' Slate Drawing Book, revised by Prof. Duncan McGregor, drawings by A.F. Brooks, and published by A.H. Andrews & Co., Chicago, copyright 1878. Fourth edition. Cover title reads: Andrews' Progressive Slate Drawing Book: Containing all the pictures on Andrews Noiseless Drawing Slates, for Schools and Families. Front cover also has publication information: Chicago: A.H. Andrews & Co., 1878. Front cover has a decorative border. On the back cover is an image of a framed drawing slate which reads "Andrews Patent Noiseless Drawing Slate". A notice on the verso of the title page, in part, states that "Prof. Duncan McGregor, President of the State Normal School, Plateville, Wis." This book has 38 numbered pages, 29 of which are illustrated, and the remaining pages contain text. The first 2 and last 2 pages are blank and unnumbered. The inside back cover contains advertisements for school equipment and furniture, and an applied label for "Baker, Pratt & Co., School Furnishers, Importers, Booksellers, and Stationers, 142 & 144 Grand St., New York." The images proceed from simple to more complex.

    Five booklets of bound drawing cards published by L. Prang & Co., Boston (of which three are copyright 1863). These are entitled Slate Pictures: Drawing School for Beginners, numbered "2"(2 copies), "4", "6". The fifth booklet is entitled Slate Pictures for the useful selfemployment (sic) of young children and is numbered "II". While the first three booklets were clearly published by Prang, the fourth has no date and no manufacturer, and may be a European import. The back cover of the three Prang booklets have an advertisement for other Prang publications. All of the books have a similar green and white cover, and similar content. Of the images in the booklets, all are white on a black background, simulating drawing on slate with chalk. The images depict a variety of items and scenes including tools, weapons, landscapes, people, and animals. There are numerous pencil markings on the booklets, along with the names, in pencil, of "Eva L. Wheeler, Charleston, Mass." (inside cover, book number 4) and "Florence Mary (or May) Hubbard" (back cover, book number 6).

    One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled Children's Drawing Book, published by The Coats Thread Co., American Works, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, ca. 1890. This drawing book is 8 pages in length and contains 5 images, on grids, for copying onto separate grids. The first image is on the inside of the front cover. The front and back covers are printed in red. The title is framed by a decorative flourish above an image of an open sketchbook with drawing tools. Beneath is printed: "Presented by The Coats Thread Co. Sole agents U.S. for J. & P. Coats' Spool Cotton. (American Works, Pawtucket, R.I.)". On the back cover is an image of a spool of thread with the words "J. & P. Coats' best six cord spool cotton. White, fast black & colors."

    One book entitled The Teachers' Companion to the American Drawing-Slates: No. 1.--Free-Hand Drawing, Elementary and Advanced, by Walter Smith, published by Noyes, Holmes, and Company, Boston, 1872. On the verso of the title page is printed: "Riverside, Cambridge: Electrotyped and Printed by H.O. Houghton and Company." This booklet is 52 numbered pages in length, and features white-on-black drawing card reproductions as illustrations. Following an 8-page introduction, the book is divided into two sections, Free-hand Drawing, parts 1 and 2. Both sections include use of straight and curved lines. The insides of the front and back covers, as well as the back cover, are blank. "E.A.W." (previous owner) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. "25-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover.
