    Manuscripts

    Perkins responds to Randall's prior inquiry on the land of San Joaquin County and the Hutch-Armstrong Company. He states that "some of the soil is equal in value to that in any part of California and some of it is not worth $1 an acre, but generally speaking it is one of the best counties in the State," and that the county is home to the town of Stockton, "the fourth largest city in the State." He describes the Hutch-Armstrong company as owning a number of fruit ranches in California. On letterhead of the United States Senate.

    John A. Hamilton letter to N. Hinman

    Manuscripts

    In this letter to Mr. N. Hinman, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Pacific University in Oregon, John A. Hamilton writes on behalf of the American College and Education Society in Boston. He discusses "the loosing of Pacific University from Congregational moorings" and "the grave issue" of "the speedy coming into existence of a competing Congregational Institution." He suggests a solution: "Let the Trustees pass the provision for Change of Charter which the Statute law of the State offers." Mr. Hamilton also advises that the University not relocate, as a railroad may be constructed nearby. Typewritten letter, signed by hand.

    George C. Perkins letter to William Logue

    Manuscripts

    Perkins is ready to accept Logue's proposal "without any more talk" and hopes he "will be more prosperous in the years to come" for his "perseverance deserves to be rewarded." All Logue must do is pay the $500 principal, which Perkins advises him to do.

    Manuscripts

    Perkins apologizes for the delay in addressing Mr. Bower's request, but he has been "greatly pressed with business by reason of the long sessions of the Senate." He hopes that Mr. Bower will accept the enclosed photograph. No photograph is included.

    This collection contains professional papers generated by Calvin S. Hamilton during his tenure as planning director for the City of Los Angeles. The papers were organized into two series: 1) Bound Volumes Series 2) Correspondence, Manuscripts, and Ephemera Series. The Bound Volumes Series contains 45 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings on subjects such as Calvin S. Hamilton and planning issues related to Los Angeles during the period of 1964 to 1986. This series also contains an area plan of Los Angeles (1963 to 1975), land use community plan, City of Los Angeles employees' telephone directory, and a zoning code book. The Correspondence, Manuscripts, and Ephemera Series contains a range of unbound materials that were generated by Hamilton. Most prominently are periodicals that featured Hamilton and the City of Los Angeles's planning endeavors and projects, various planning reports, transcripts of speeches given by Hamilton, and subject files on earthquake preparedness and Olvera Street in Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles City Archives also holds a large collection of Calvin S. Hamilton's professional papers.
