Subject matter includes Gill's missionary work in Texas with the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians (1876-1896), in Arizona with the Salt River Pima tribe near Phoenix (1896-1902), and with the Yavapai at Fort McDowell (1902-1906). There are occassional mentions of African Americans and African American churches in letters and journals written from Texas and Oklahoma.
