Provenance: Contemporary ms. title and attribution on leaf [A]2r. Illegible, faded signature beneath followed by other faded annotations. Assorted ms. annotations and reader marks from the sixteenth century or possibly earlier. A annotator, probably sixteenth-century, adds numerous legal drafts and pen trials (a2v, a4r, c3r, possibly g3r). A recurring signature of "Alexander Sherborne" (g2r, i2r) is possibly sixteenth-century. Numerous drafts of legal documents by Thomas Burne, whose signature appears on a2r, h3r, and elsewhere. Burne family register on C5r, recording birth dates of Burne (1572), his wife, and children (to 1621). Several pen trials, notes, and signature, perhaps of a child, in an early seventeenth-century hand. Chatsworth bookplate with shelfmark in pencil: bookcase 1, shelf D. Purchased by George D. Smith for Henry E. Huntington as part of the sale of the Devonshire Caxtons.
