Henry Cabot Lodge Collection
Manuscripts
This collection consists entirely of correspondence and a small amount of printed ephemera of Henry Cabot Lodge. The papers consist of the following series: 1. Correspondence (Boxes 1-6) is arranged alphabetically by author. This series includes a small number of letters by other authors, including Anna J. Bird, William Cooper Hunneman, Carl A. Loeffler, Elihu Root and William Howard Taft. The majority of the letters in the collection are by Henry Cabot Lodge; these include a very small number of personal letters but are mainly letters by Lodge to other political leaders of the time or to his Massachusetts constituents. The political letters deal with the important people or topics of the time: Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, the Spanish-American War, World War I, the League of Nations and Paris Peace Conference, as well as Women's Suffrage. The letters to his constituents often deal with more local Massachusetts issues and concerns, or are requests for Lodge to use his political power to help them obtain a job or another politician's favor. 2. Ephemera (Box 6) is arranged by subject and type of material. This series is mainly printed material, as well as a small number of autograph notes by Lodge.
