MS note gives explanation : "Restrictions on Collecting Birds for Scientific Purposes. Figures indicate minimum age for Holders of Permits. States colored blue make no provision for Scientific Collecting." Map shows Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory - Oklahoma became a state in 1907, so map (though not necessarily MS notes) predates 1907. Utah is already a state, so map must be after 1896. Not famous for the map but for the owner who added information to it. Owned and noted by Dr. Frederick Jackson Turner of Harvard, deviser of "Manifest Destiny" and mentor of Ray Alan Billington. In two parts, mounted on cardboard, folded. Inside of folder is mounted a map of Boston and Boston Harbor , Edition of 1903, rerprinted 1980.
