Manuscripts
This collection contains of the business records of the Merrymount Press and the related papers of its founder Daniel Berkeley Updike (1860-1941). The bulk of the collection consists of financial volumes; correspondence with customers, publishers, illustrators, craftsmen, and suppliers; bills; estimates; and scrapbooks with specimens of work. While the majority of the correspondence is comprised of letters, there are occasionally proofs, specimens, and cloth, paper, fabric samples, etc., found with the correspondence. The records reflect Updike's involvement with printing across the United States and in Europe, though much of his work was produced for clients in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York City. Some of the correspondence reflects Updike's personal interests including Rhode Island history and churches and charitable work with poor children as well as prison inmates.

Francisco Xavier Monteiro de Barros papers, (bulk 1821-1825)
Manuscripts
The chronologically-arranged papers consist of eleven manuscripts, eighty-nine pieces of correspondence, and three ephemera folders. The bulk of the collection is letters authored by the colleagues of Francisco Xavier Monteiro de Barros, documenting changes in the Portuguese politics and government and United States-Portuguese foreign relations. Prominent persons represented in the correspondence series include João José Miguel Ferreira da Silva Amaral (1773-1857); José Ferreira Borges (1786-1838); Francisco Solano Constancio (1777-1846); Joaquim Cesar de Figanière e Mourão (1798-1866); and João Bernardo da Rocha Loureiro (1778-1853). Most of the works penned by Monteiro de Barros are scientific and mathematical notes and tracts, specifically relating to celestial mechanics and mathematical physics. The dates of these papers are unknown, and were therefore dated before 1855, the year of his death.
