Description: Paulus Aegineta was the most important physician of his day and a skillful surgeon. He gave original descriptions of lithotomy, trephining, tonsillectomy, paracentesis and amputation of the breast; the first clear description of lead poisoning comes from him. His work first appeared in Greek from the Aldine Press in Venice in 1528. The Adams translation is the first into English. -- H.W. Orr.
