- First edition of of the author's outstanding contributions to medical science. Bernard's work in neuophysiology includes the description of the origin and function of the cervical sympathetic system and examination of the vasomotor innervation of blood vessels. He also gives his description of "Horner's syndrome' as a condition due to lesion of the cervical sympathetic, offereing proof that the sympathetic governs the pupillary, vasomotor, sudomotor, and pilomotor functions. -- Rootenberg, 1987.
