Martha's Vineyard : my third sketchbook from the summer of 1982

The text in the booklet is an edited version of several hours of conversations with Hockney concerning, for the most part, the function and meaning of sketchbooks for him personally, or, perhaps, for any artist. The accompanying facsimile is as true a copy as it possible of an original sketchbook, including blank pages--Adapted from page 5.

The mirror and the light

Rare Books

"In this final instalment of Hilary Mantel's extraordinary trilogy, Thomas Cromwell stands at the height of his power, following the fall of Anne Boleyn. As King Henry VIII's most trusted advisor, Cromwell is at the centre of the court's dangerous intrigues, deftly managing the kingdom's affairs while navigating a web of alliances and rivalries. But with every triumph comes the shadow of risk, and Cromwell finds himself increasingly isolated as the king's favour shifts. Mantel brilliantly captures the tension and uncertainty of Cromwell's final years, drawing the reader into a world where even the most powerful can face their downfall. This concluding chapter of Cromwell's story is a masterful exploration of ambition, loyalty, and the perilous nature of power"--From The Folio Society.

Pulp art book

Rare Books

"Pulp Art Book--the multi-media collaboration between photographer Neil Krug and model Joni Harbeck--has become a virtual sensation online, and is now the subject of the artists' first monograph. Pulp Art Book: Volume One is an LP-sized hardcover book, split into several vignettes ranging from a spaghetti western theme to a Bonnie and Clyde revival and to the struggles of a 1950s housewife. These series tell the story of each character, and will be expanded in subsequent volumes. The inspiration for the pulp theme comes from the artists' collective appreciation of societal life and the artistic expressions of the 1960s and 70s. Old LP jackets, Giallo posters, vintage book covers, and B-movie cinema themes have defined their taste for this project. Initially they set out to capture something simple and sexy; as the shoots progressed, however, natural story lines emerged. The resulting work captures the smell of those decades and expresses them in a fresh way"--Publisher's Web site.

The selected poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke

Rare Books

The influence and popularity of Rilke's poetry in America have never been greater than they are today, more than fifty years after his death. Rilke is unquestionably the most significant and compelling poet of romantic transformation, of spiritual quest, that the twentieth century has known. His poems of ecstatic identification with the world exert a seemingly endless fascination for contemporary readers. In Stephen Mitchell's versions, many readers feel that they have discovered an English rendering that captures the lyric intensity, fluency, and reach of Rilke's poetry more accurately and convincingly than has ever been done before. Mr. Mitchell is impeccable in his adherence to Rilke's text, to his formal music, and to the complexity of his thought; at the same time, his work has authority and power as poetry in its own right. Few translators of any poet have arrived at the delicate balance of fidelity and originality that Mr. Mitchell has brought off with seeming effortlessness. The generous and unusual selection that the translator has made from Rilke's large body of work has been praised by scholars for the judicious picture it offers of the breadth and depth of Rilke's greatness. The German text is printed facing the translations, and the poems have been extensively annotated with relevant quotations from Rilke's correspondence and other essential information. Noted poet and critic Robert Hass's searching introduction, "Looking for Rilke," discusses the span of Rilke's career and his importance for the American poetic tradition.
