- Description
- The Thunderbolt & the Monk is the story of two calligraphy teachers at Reed College whose classes from the 1950s until 1984 were the primary inspiration for some of the key figures in early digital typography. The dynamic Reynolds and the spiritual Palladino taught students Steve Jobs (Apple), Sumner Stone (Adobe Industries), and Charles Bigelow (RIT and Stanford University) who then integrated their teachers' lessons of life, letter design, and legibility into the nascent world of digital type. Other classmates took Reed's lettering message into emerging fields of digital humanities, environmental signage, and popular culture. Still others excelled in the established fields of calligraphy, handwriting education, fine art, and poetry.
