The four holy Gospels : English standard version (ESV)
Rare Books
"The Four Holy Gospels is an exquisitely designed and produced edition of the four canonical Gospels in the English Standard Version, published in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the King James Version (KJV) Bible in 1611. The Four Holy Gospels features newly commissioned original paintings representing the four Gospel Evangelists, illuminated initial letters, and other embellishments and design elements, printed in full color throughout and on high-quality art paper. The text of the Gospels is reproduced in a highly readable, large font; ideally suited for public reading, liturgical use, and as a family heirloom. The artist commissioned for the project is Makoto Fujimura, a devout Christian, and one of the most highly-regarded artists of the twenty-first century. He is the founder of the International Arts Movement and has served on the National Council for the Arts. His art is on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, as well as a number of art museums in the US. A premiere exhibition of the art created for The Four Holy Gospels is planned for December of 2010, at the Dillon Gallery in New York City. The Four Holy Gospels stands in the historic stream of the beautifully hand-illuminated editions of the Gospels created many centuries ago. This exquisite and unique modern edition carries on a classic tradition, beautifully combining the words of the Gospels and original art, inspired by the text, and brilliantly executed for the glory of God."--Publisher's blurb.

On rooks
Rare Books
"This set of splendidly rich poems records the minutiae of the moment, moving from micro to macro throughout. The poems are both the residue of privacy and an accounting of terrain, the poet's territory; a collision of megalopolis, mountain, and desert meeting in fire ... Twenty-three photographs taken by Carolee Campbell inhabit the book. They do not illustrate as much as act as an ambient penumbra. The images were found in the glancing light shining off the edge of the poetry"--Publisher's website.

Language has no weather : field notes from Unseen California
Rare Books
"Unseen California is a multi-pronged arts research initiative utilizing the University of California Natural Reserve System through site specific research performed by a collaborative artist cohort, generating opportunities for field-based arts teaching and learning, public programming, and the creation of artworks. This book features the artists' explorations in progress--their field notes--across media, generated from site work and ongoing dialogues. In this context, field notes are understood as fragments toward knowing, and these are embodied, subjective observations that might speculate and certainly express wonder, but also recognize that interpretation will often happen later, elsewhere."--Publisher's website, www.shop.theretherenow.com

Namibia : the forbidden zone
Rare Books
"Namibia, on the south-west coast of Africa, is sandwiched between two vast deserts. It is a land of amazing beauty and, quite literally, hidden gems, being one of the world's primary sources of diamonds. The sand dunes, shaped by the winds, are colored by the prevailing light. Richard Ehrlich has captured not only the breathtaking landscape but also the insides of homes occupied now only by piles of drifting sand. The colors, shapes, patterns, and small signs of former inhabitants are meticulously and beautifully recorded in this gorgeous new book"--Publisher's description.

Excerpts from silver meadows
Rare Books
"Nazraeli Press is pleased to announce Excerpts from Silver Meadows, our sixth monograph by Todd Hido and his most ambitious project to date. Hido is one of the most widely recognized and influential photographic artists of our time. Silver Meadows is the name of a street that runs through the neighborhood in Kent, Ohio where the artist grew up. The setting of Hido's childhood, it also became the creative wellspring for his work. Here, it serves as a point of departure for Hido's reexamination of a Midwestern suburban upbringing; 'a trip through the innocence of childhood and adolescence and into the darker aspects of life beyond.' Beautifully printed on matte Japanese art paper, and featuring an 'installation' of tipped-in images on the case binding, 'Excerpts from Silver Meadows' is printed in a first edition of 3,000 copies. A special edition with an signed and numbered original print is also available."--Publisher's description.
