Manuscripts
The manuscript is divided in 2 parts. The first part (82 pp.) details Eck's journey from Düsseldorf to Chicago by way of Hamburg, Southampton, New York, Niagara Falls, West Point, Hudson, Philadelphia, Altoona, Johnstown, and Pittsburgh. The second part (100 pp.) contains the description of Eck's homeward journey from Chicago to Düsseldorf and includes visits to Omaha, Denver, the Rocky Mountains, Manitou Springs, Salt Lake City, the Sierra Nevada, Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Pasadena, San Gabriel, Los Angeles, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, San Antonio, New Orleans, Tampa, Key West, Havana, New York, and Hamburg. Details of life aboard the ship, the sights of the "neuen Welt," gold digging in Colorado, Mormons and much more are included. All places visited are extensively reported on and contain descriptions of the cultivation, landscapes and vegetation, the native population, geology, culture, and religion. In German.

A photograph album with 32 photographs of Portland, Oregon, and the surrounding area. Photographs include waterfalls, winter scenes in the countryside, and grazing cows, as well as a portrait of "Princess Wal-lu-lah" which was reproduced in photographer Lee Moorhouse's "Souvenir Album of Noted Indian Photographs" (1905) as "Princess We-a-lole, Cayuse Maiden"; sweeping view of Portland and Mt. Hood; the capsized French 4-masted bark "Asie" at Davidge's Whart in Portland (this ship capsized in December of 1901); the "Needles" (aka "Pillars of Hercules") rock formations that flank the railroad tracks along the Hood River; H. A. MacNeil's bronze statue "Coming of the White Man" in Washington Park in Portland and views of Multnomah Falls in Oregon; and two buildings under construction from the Lewis and Clark Exposition of 1905 (the Agricultural Building and the Oriental Building).

A collection of 20 photographs of Yosemite National Park in California, mostly taken in Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove. The photographs feature "big trees" (i.e. Sequoia trees) in Mariposa Grove, several waterfalls, such as Nevada Falls, Vernal Falls, Yosemite Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls, and a number of peaks and geological formations, such as Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Spires, the North and South Domes, Cap of Liberty, and El Capitan. Some of the images include people, presumably tourists. The only man-made structure in the album is Black's Hotel. Some of the photographs are by Carleton E. Watkins, some by the Yosemite National Park Co.
