"In this book the author presents the whole of the results that he has obtained in his work on the action of substances on sperms since he first began to study this subject under the British Control Investigation Committee nearly seven years ago. Detailed descriptions are given of the techniques which he has standardised for the purpose of accurately grading the spermicidal powers of pure substances and proprietary preparations. The mode of action of substances upon sperms is discussed. The author suggests that his discovery that mammalian sperms may be chemically stimulated should be put to practical use in certain cases of infertility. Dr. H. M. Carleton adds a chapter upon the pathology of contraception. The book is intended for the medical man, the chemist, the pharmacologist, the physiologist and the biologist. It is hoped that it will be regarded as a contribution to pure as well as applied science"--dust jacket.
