T.E. Lawrence and Mao Tse-Tung were successful leaders of guerrilla movements. The strategic objectives and principles of each are analyzed and discussed and the differences and similarities compared. "The basic theme is a comparison of the strategies of two recognized masters of the art of guerrilla warfare. Using as principal sources the writings of Mao Tse-tung and T.E. Lawrence, a study is conducted of the similarities of their strategies. It is noted that within similar time frames of age and experience and dissimilar parameters of environment, resources and personal ambitions, closely identical strategies for the achievement of separate goals were produced."--Author's abstract.

"T.E. Lawrence and Mao Tse Tung are two of the masters of modern guerrilla warfare. The writings of each man and descriptions of their campaigns were studied to derive the principles upon which they based their strategic decisions. Comparison of these principles revealed many similarities and only one major difference: Lawrence taught that pitched battles should be avoided while Mao preached the need to encircle and annihilate enemy forces completely. Offensive battles and defensive battles fought using each man's doctrine are outlined and compared."--Author's abstract.
